“I would look in the mirror daily and not see the person that I had known all my life.  Further, my health was sliding as each doctor’s visit brought me more and more issues with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and more and more prescriptions to try and reduce all these health issues.  I knew that taking prescription medications simply masked the underlining issues and I wanted to move towards a prescription free life and a healthy body.  Then around May 1 of this year my brother sent me a picture of us on vacation and I saw a person in that picture that I barely recognized, puffy, bloated, and overweight.  I knew right then that I needed to take immediate action and be dedicated to the task of getting my body and weight under control.
I started on May 10th of this year and ended my weight loss portion of the journey on September 22nd having lost 55 lbs. and reducing my waist from a size 40 to a size 36.  I have suddenly and steadily found more energy in each day.  My appearance has improved to a slim and trim 65-year-old man. Other improvements have come at the doctor visits, where my blood pressure is within range and the doctor has allowed me to eliminate my blood pressure medications and statin drugs. This has really become the primary benefit to me in having a better well-being and healthier body.  I have energy to exercise that I was lacking before.  The journey is not over but the weight loss program and the nutritional training I received has equipped me to continue my healthy eating and exercise lifestyle into the future.
Which leads me to my coach Shelbie Swinhoe. Shelbie was great at instructions and holding me accountable at each weekly meeting.  Her advice on nutrition and eating habits resonated with me and helped me to understand and adopt a new healthy attitude towards food and eating.  Shelbie is a pro and I very much enjoyed working with her, both in my weight loss phase and into the transition and stability phase of my journey.  I wish everyone as good a coach as I have in Shelbie.”

“I think like most people, my weight loss journey was a longtime coming. I had gotten stuck in a routine: working endless hours, not setting boundaries or taking care of my mental or physical health. I gave in to whatever cravings I had without regard of the consequences. Then, the pandemic happened. It disrupted my routine and shook me out of my comfort zone. I found myself wanting desperately to gain back the control I willingly gave away to the lull of comfort and routine. I started in March of 2020 and was completely ready to do whatever it took to get the weight off and gain control back over my life.

“I felt I was out of control and needed something to get me on track. I put on extra weight when Covid hit, snacking more and having drinks nightly. I wanted to lose weight prior to a family vacation to Hawaii but it did not happen. When I got back I found I was sick of food and myself!
I lost 35 lbs and dropped from a size 16 to 8. It happened gradually but it seemed to go by quickly over 5-6 months. My doctor was also very pleased to see my cholesterol numbers and how they improved!
I have started an exercise routine (pilates 5 days a week) which added muscle and firmed me up and made me able to move around and enjoy life more! I have never been a runner, but I was able to do a 5K fun run last March. This was something my husband signed us up for out of the blue. I was really surprised at how my cardio had improved. Skiing last season was also much easier with less breaks due to the increase in muscle mass and increase in cardio. I feel more confident in my appearance and how I carry myself. I have always been more modest but now I feel comfortable wearing my workout clothes out to run errands. I have always walked for exercise but it was more than just adding pilates it was loosing the fat and gaining muscle mass that has given me the ability to move around easier.
Shelbie has been instrumental in teaching me more about food and why some foods are better for me to build muscle. She has also taught me that I am still living my life. There will be holidays and vacation where you may indulge a little more but that does not mean to throw it all out the window. I get back to newer life style and don’t beat myself up for a couple extra pounds.
Shelbie is an awesome nutrition coach. She is so knowledgeable about not only food and what is best to eat and why; but she also knows a lot about adding exercise to increase muscle which is so important as you age. I highly recommend Shelbie as a nutrition life coach. I will continue to talk with her to continue to learn.
I want this to be a Life Long Change! I have always dieted; weight watchers, keto, paleo, ideal protein. I have never been able to maintain for more than 6-12 months but instead have let the weight slowly creep back on. My plan is to continue to learn from Shelbie, eat right and exercise. I am in my late 50’s and wish I had done this earlier. I only have this life and this body and I need to treat it right so I may live the best life I have left to live! I feel confident with Shelbie as my coach I can stay lean for the rest of my life!”

“I have always struggled with my relationship with food. However...having someone to chat with every week about my journey has helped me find a balance of being thoughtful but not obsessive about eating and caloric intake.”

“I was working out and running regularly, but because of the pandemic, I was making reckless choices about food- so I never saw any pay of for my hard work! I knew the answer was to “reset” my eating habits and calibrate a balance. I had plans of moving to LA once the pandemic was winding down, and I knew I needed to reset my mentality BEFORE moving, so I could be on the right track and in a good headspace when the time came.
I think I went from a 12 to 8. Went from 40 inch bust to 37. I started at 176 and ended at 153 I believe. The biggest change has been in my tummy area- I will never have a “flat tummy” but there is so much more definition and I feel great! I really love exercise and am able to incorporate weight lifting and strength training in a way that has defined the muscles in my arms, legs and abs that are great! I was able to keep the fat off but define those muscles even more, which is super rewarding.
I have also noticed more energy throughout the day and better, deeper sleep at night.

This will be a lifelong struggle for me- but an opportunity to be candid about not just what’s going on physically, but also emotionally with my eating has helped me see patterns and take steps to circumvent certain behaviors that end up with me gaining weight in an unhealthy way.
It was such a joy to chat with Shelbie every week and talk about how things were going, but also just connecting with her as a person, helped me feel more comfortable in the process!
I would definitely recommend Shelbie to anyone who has the drive, but maybe not the tools to get there. She is as great cheerleader but also pragmatic and honest in a way that makes sure you enter her office without judgement or preconceived ideas of what is the “right” way to accomplish your goals!”

“My biggest problem aside from my weight was health. I got to the point where 3 different doctors(in the same week) said I was killing myself.
I had always attempted to lose weight and I would accomplish it but for a short period of time. I would eventually go back to old habits. When the doctors said they could not help me much, I knew I had to do something.
In December of 2020 I weighed in at 300 lbs. at the Doctors office, right now I am between 200 and 204. My pants size was a 24 . I am currently buying size 16. I have more energy, it’s easier to move and physical activities are now enjoyable. Confidence and self esteem have improved, I am not as self conscious about body image anymore. Quality of life has definitely improved, no more asthma/breathing issues, no more medication. I am really enjoying this.
